  1. My name is Debbie. I have been working on both my hubby's and my genealogy since 2001. My hubby is a Terry descendant. His line goes like this:

    My hubby > Sylvia Carol > Lawson Frisco > Henry M. > Thomas M. > George Washington > William Thomas > John > John > ?

The first John is the one who married Ruth Heaton. There is a lot of doubt as to Ruth's maiden name, many want proof it is Heaton. Do you have proof? Would you mind sharing if you do? I believe it to be Heaton but I am being told it is not so if I had proof to put with my words that would be great!! I am aware that there are people out there that require proof before putting any information in their genealogy. I don't have a problem with that, proof is good!!

If there is any additional information that you can share with me I would greatly appreciate it!! If there is any information you seek I would not mind sharing that with you!!

I did send you an email as well.

  3. Debbie, I'm still a little confused as to how you have been able to trace your husband's Terry family back to John. It is the same one as my Terry family and the furtherest back I've been able to go is to William (middle name possibly Thomas) Terry, who was supposedly born in 1794 TN. However, I have found his Bounty Land papers from NARA and according to those he was born either 1779 or 1789. There were two different applications about 5 years apart and his ages listed are different. He died on Jan 01, 1856 in Franklin Co, IL. Although I can't say for sure, there is circumstantial evidence that points to his being the father of our George Terry and although I've seen George's middle name of Washington in a few places, I've never seen it directly linked to our George. There was another George Terry in KY whose middle name was Washington and he has been confused with our George for quite some time now. George's son Thomas Meridith Terry would be your husband's line. His son Henry and then Henry's son Lawson Frisco. . . (This is carrie using my daughter's account to reply...also, I have to split my comment in half because it was too long)

  4. . . . My line is through Thomas Meridith's older brother William Terry, b. 1846 in Perry Co, IL. I think Thomas was born 1853. Thomas also had a brother Alfred, who traveled first to Kansas with him and later Oklahoma. Alfred married Sarah Stilley in KS. The Stilley's also were first in Perry, IL. Can't think of her dad's name off the top of my head just now. Have you ever been able to locate a marriage record for Thomas Meridith Terry and Eliza Freeman? I've been corresponding with Patricia Terry who lives in TX for some time now off and on and last I contacted her, she hadn't been able to locate one. Anyway, I'm just very curious how you tie our Terrys with John Terry from NJ. On a death record for one of William Terry's (b. 1789?) sons from his second marriage to Rebecca Brasher, also named John, it was stated that his father Wm. was born in PA. Also, on pretty much all the census records I've located for his son John who was born in 1847 Perry Co, IL, he states that his father was born in PA. So NJ would be in the vicinity of possibility. Just wonder how you link him in there. Please let me know because like I said, I've never been able to go past Wm. b. 1789 probably PA. The only record that most have gone on for that Wm. is the 1850 census in which he stated he was 56 years old and born in TN. However, his second wife Rebecca (first wife Elizabeth Marlow, b. 1788) was 45 years old in 1850 and my theory was that Wm probably didn't want to report his real age, likely being 61 but possibly 71 with his wife being that much younger. Or, it's possible that he mistakingly told them the wrong age. Either way, that is the record that most have gone on for placing his birth year in 1794. Previous census years only list a an age category of a span of years, so can't really know from those. And he died before the 1860 census too. Some have speculated because of his birth year of 1794 that he was an older brother to George, not his father. But I have also always believed that George also had a brother James due to much circumstantial evidence, who was born in 1820 TN. A cousin who died a few years ago didn't believe he was related although shows up in 1840 census in DuQuoin as Wm and George. In 1920, a descendant of James came to Perry Co to get some info on another of his ancestors and spoke with James' grandchildren and they related that James was the son of Wm Terry and Elizabeth Marlow. I have other evidence of his relation to them although circumstantial, but strong. PLEASE, let me know how you know about Wm's father being John Terry of NJ and then possibly him being son of another John? This would bridge the gap I've never been able to cross. I sent a DNA test to my brother who lives in Japan about 5 years back but he's never completed it and I've reminded him several times. I was hoping he could tie us to someone in the Terry DNA program. He is definitely a male heir-looks just like my great grandfather Wm, son of George. I'm so frustrated that he hasn't done it after I paid for it too! Anyway, would love to hear back from you about this. We've talked before about it, but couldn't remember if you were able to document this at the time.

    Thanks!

    Cousin Carrie in NC

  5. I have a DNA connection to Austin Taylor 1820-1880, Cockle, Tennessee, USA', but would like to know more about my ancestor 'George Taylor' and his daughter, 'Ellen Leonora Taylor 1831-, Gibraltar' who is my second great grandmother and her mother, 'Leonora Gomez' who was born in Spain. They were still residents of Gibraltar in 1845.

Would like to hear from anyone who knows anything about this branch of the Taylors, with thanks Nigel De La Nauze
